Focus: Interview Tips – STAR Questions

Focus: Interview Tips – STAR Questions

There’s a lot to do to prepare for an interview: choose an outfit, print your résumé, research the company you’re interviewing with, and (hopefully) find time to focus and to calm your nerves.

At EHS, our recruiters have expertise, tips, and checklists to share to help candidates present their best selves during interviews. But there is something people never quite prepare enough for: STAR Questions.

STAR Questions give you the chance to shine (pun intended) – but what are they?

A STAR Question asks you to:

  • State a Situation or a Task you encountered at work,
  • Explain what Action you took to resolve or complete it, and
  • Describe what happened as a Result of this action.

These questions provide you with an opportunity to shine (pun intended). Think of a time you were quick on your feet to solve an urgent problem, resolved a conflict with a customer or co-worker, or increased efficiency or boosted sales through a new initiative – any example like these will add some dimension to your résumé, highlighting at least one reason why you’re the best person for the job.

Have any questions? Ready to start your job search off on the right foot? Give me a call or shoot me an email! I’m working with 50+ companies looking to fill 80+ positions.
